I just returned from a trip overseas and I found that the former owner of my 72 sent me a package that contained some really cool old documents. I opened it up and felt I had struck gold. Here are some pictures of the stuff. The document on the very bottom is the receipt for the original registration.
Alan, is the metal card attached to the warranty folder what is called a protecto plate?
Hi c,
Yes!, I'd say that's quite a NICE package!
And yes, the metal plate is the protect-o-plate.
Is the wheel trim instruction card unfolded? If so, that's a find too. (Most were folded when they were put in the plastic envelope.))
Regards,
Alan
One of my continuing searches is for the license plate mounting fastener envelopes…. and THERE THEY ARE!!!!
Are the screws still in the envelopes?
That's a great collection of invaluable documentation from the previous owner.
A nice welcome home present for sure. Reach out and acknowledge your gratitude if you haven't all ready.
The envelopes are still stapled closed with the screws inside and the wheel trim instructions were never folded. I had read about the protect-o-plate in other thread, but I figured that was something lost that I would never get. I was really excited to get the delivery sheet and the original registration receipt. I had already figured out that my car was either one of the last cars built in December of 1971 or one of the first built in January of 1972. This documents that they bought the car on February 2 and it was delivered on February 8.
I definitely will do that. Since the car belonged to this guys deceased wife, he actually cares about what happens to the car. I plan on bringing the car to show him when it is completely finished. He will be very happy.

What a great find !, I bought my 72 corvette from my neighbor, the original owner, and never could find any of the documentation (except the owners manual) that went with it.
Consider yourself very fortunate !

Sweet! Very nice of the seller to pass along the documentation. FWIW: your second pic shows the car went through new car dealer prep on 2/3/72 which confirms that the car had been delivered and was at the dealership by that date. I'm guessing the first owners probably saw the car on 2/2.

He had previously sent me the service records for the car that went back to 1982. There were some service records in this packet as well. I can now pretty much document the mileage of 49K is correct.
Congratulations on getting this information. I located this on my 1971 and I passed it along to its new owner as well. Significant that you have the information and that will always help you with the value of the car for future owners as well. Keep the data safe. I would scan it, copy it, and then put it away in a safe dry environment. Show the copies if you wish to show them with the car, but don't show the originals. People have sticky fingers and will ruin or steal your original documents.
Just a thought for long term enjoyment.
Enjoy the heck out of your car and your newly recovered data.
