What can I use (from an auto parts store if possible) to preserve the plastic rear window in my convertible tops? The hot weather's coming up here in Arizona, although the tops stay down most of the time. Thanks in advance for any help.
From: PHOENIX, AZ Yes, it's true. You are a good woman. Then again, you may be the Antichrist.
Mine plastic window is all hazy. I'm just jumping in to see if there are any helpful replies.
I'm new to convertibles...just got mine...but I'd assume storing the car with the top in the "up" position would be preferable? Especially with the summer coming. Heat + folding can't be good for the window.
First get the convertible top pillow that keeps the window from kinking when down especially if you leave it down for extended periods of time. Most vendors have it.
I've heard that clear floor polish can take some of the haze out but I've never tried it as my top was really bad when I bought my car so I just replaced it.
I used Meguiars Plastic X to remove haze. Used it inside and out. Top is over 25 yo. Store with top up and in a garage.
I do store my car in the garage but I rarely put my top up unless I have to go somewhere and it's raining (my car is my daily driver). In fact in the winter when my hardtop is on I don't take the soft top out so it stays folded for at least 6 months. When I do put the hardtop on I take special care making sure to keep the creases at a minimum as best at I can. If you take a little time to fold the top keeping it down will not hurt it.

I find using chemicals and some sprays can damage the plastic. My top said to use a mild soap and water, that's it. So I use my wash soap for the car and wipe the window with a clean soft microfiber towel. Been ten years and no issue.
When I store the top down I make sure that the window when I fold it, is a nice u-shape and not kinked. Then insert a rolled blanket into the u shape fold of the top and that's it.
Also they sell a nice vinyl strip to protect the deck lid paint while the top is up. I recommend that to prevent a nice gasket mark on the deck lid.
I would also add since you are a new convertible owner that when the top is down be careful when you store things under the folded top in the back space because you can scratch the plastic from underneath . We always carry folding chairs to the cruises and I keep them forward of the top window.
Here's another great product to use on your back window. You can find it for sale on amazon.
I only use it once at the beginning of the season and at the end before winter. The rest of the time I just use plain water and a soft cotton towel.
I've never tried this, but I had a guy at a car show last summer who owns a BB 69 sidepipe car tell me he used one of those headlight cleaner kits to clean some of the fogging/ yellowing on his back window! It was the original dated window too! Here's a photo of it. I told him he had way more "guts" than I did to try that. It sure came out very nice though.
