Can anyone help. I just replaced the starter in my 69' Corvette. I put the car back on the ground and hooked the battery back up. I turned the ignition and the car cranked for 2 seconds and just stopped. Can anyone explain that. I took the starter back out and had it tested and it was fine. I'm thinking a ground issue somewhere (which I checked) or a wire became loose somewhere. Has anyone had a problem like this. I just did the entire rear end on this car and low and behold a starter is holding this thing up from hitting the pavement. Thanks
Hi jk,
WELCOME First Post!!!
Are you certain you got the wiring at the starter solenoid on the right connections?
There is a fusible link at the starter… have you checked to see if that appears to be intact?

Alan

I'm certain that everything I put back together is right. I'm going to remove some of that electrical tape and see what the fusible link looks like under it. The fusible link isn't in the best shape because its probably the original so I was going to replace them or splice it where the wires seem the best. Sound like something I should do.

I just figured it worked on the old starter so it would work on the new one but I could be getting a crappy connection where the wire meets the eye.

I figured out the problem after a few hours of wire testing. The car was originally and automatic and it has a 4 speed in it now. Up under the dashboard they had the old neutral switch jumped so the car would start. The jumper must have fallen off somehow. I forgot to take that into consideration. These cars are so simple but yet so hard.
