Default EFI for my '79

I have been trying to avoid this but my carb was been rebuilt (About 2 years ago) and it still is having problems. I took it for a ride for the new year and I am getting about 7 mpg. I know I can send it out and get it rebuilt again but I am just going to purchase a Fuel Injector, so...

Can I get a recommendation on what would work well with my '79 - L350, manual transmission. The easier to install the better.

Thx Paul

Default Disregard - Duplicate Question of Mine

Disregard, I had forgotten I asked this question a couple of years back. While searching the forum I found my answer so no need for replies.

Thx

Things have changed a fair bit in the last couple of years. Have a look at/read about the Fitech (which I have and am very happy with) and Holley Sniper systems.

the new systems are way better and cheaper than just a few years ago. I have an EZEfi 2.0 on my Cobra, somewhat modified stock LS3 injection on my 72 Vette and I just installed a Fitech on a forum members car. All systems work well. Do your homework and pick what is right for your driving.

Is that the same as this? This is what I was going to purchase.

I installed a FItech 600hp kit. I used a tanks inc fuel tank with an internal walbro fuel pump. I will never go back to a carb on the corvette again. Its been 1 yr now with no issues. The fuel injection just works the way a new car does. No pumping the gas pedal. No hard starts when hot, altitude compensating, for me that was an issue! I had the 650 speed demon pretty well dialed in previous to the FI setup, but still the hard hot start condition and altitude compensation was an issue.

No that is the base EZ efi system. I have the EZ efi 2.0 which is a step up from this system. The FItech is a totally different system. Just Google FItech fuel injection

I agree on not going back to a carb. I sold off or gave away all my carb stuff. Not looking back. The FI is just so much nicer to drive.

Default V 2.0

Did you use in-line or in-tank fuel pump?

Do you happen to have a URL to the 2.0? I can't seem to find it.

Bought my '72 in '95, OE 350, muncie, 336 rear.....with the carb the best I could get was about 14 on the highway.....around town depending, call it 10-12......

went DPFI L98 injection, mounted pump on frame rail wrapped with a rubber hose, and a hose clamp, using stock fuel lines for supply and return, obviously changed to HEI and put the speed density computer behind the map pocket on right side....junkyard computers that maybe harder to find today, so I have about 4-5 of them, and rotate them every so often....aftermarket chip that costs less then 100 bux these daze....

I removed the exhaust crossover flap crap, and welded in the O2 sensor bung on one of the flapper holes, and sealed the other one.....

put a K&N filter on the T-body and done, basically......

car went to 24 mph on freeway even with the muncie and 336 rear.....

and that was at 80 mph too on a trip to Florida and back......

I would think you can do the entire project for lots less than I paid, because the gear is older and more parts around today....and chip prices are less than 100 bux these daze....

Default Yep, things change fast...

I now have a EZ-EFI 2.0 retrofitted to replace a GM 730 ECM. I've also had the MEFI that came with my RamJet 350.

I REALLY REALLY like my EZ-EFI 2.0.... it was better the first day I got it running than my 730 ECM was after burning chips for it for years. It was fun to learn to burn chips and program stuff for that 730 ecm, but I am a lot happier with the EZ-EFI 2.0.

I actually have the TPI retrofit kit to run my RamJet 350(since the RamJet 350 essentially ran the same sensors as 730 ECM TPI engines).

Take a look below at the throttle body kits :

Spend almost as much time researching your fuel pump options as you do the EFI itself.

There's not great aftermarket tank options for our 79s; no one cares about them because they know we're not going to pay the exorbiant "Corvette tax" when our cars just dont' have the value of the early C3s and C1s and C2s.

You want to think about whether you want a drop-in (and crazy expensive) option that require cutting a hole in your tank or you have to retrofit with a sending unit for our tanks - then you either deal with fuel starvation with a normal pickup tube or you get a hydramat -like wicking system that's appropriate for non-EFI designed fuel tanks.

Personally for longevity and noise and in-tank option was the only option for me. But then you still need to decide on return or returnless.

The fuel system options still suck for the late C3s and require a LOT of homework to have a REASONABLE expectation of getting it right the first time.

Of course, the simplest guaranteed effective option for the fuel system is a surge tank with high pressure pump. I have the Fitech FCC which DOESN'T fit this criteria (a basic surge will not have any float valve type arrangement, just an overflow plumbed as a return to the main tank), and it has worked well for me but others have had problems with it (mainly i think due to running the pump too hard, it needs to be pwm modulated lower during periods of low demand to avoid overheating). Some people don't like the idea/extra parts for a surge tank arrangement though, and I agree a properly baffled in tank pump is the ideal setup, if you can find one...
