This is Don Radman. He was a very dear family friend when I was growing up. He is the most responsible person for my love of Vettes. Circa 1962, he had won yet another trophy with his Corvette. It was later stolen and never recovered. He followed it up with a GTO and then a Bugatti.
Don passed away several years ago and has been dearly missed since.
Hope you enjoy this pic. Don would be proud to know it's being shown on our site!
Hi tvr,
Very nice photo!
I would have guessed the very early 60's…. from the hair cut!
I remember the painted letters on the white wall tires!

Alan

Great pic, I remember the old shows like that from Custom Cars magazine that i got from my uncles as a kid. I used to have a box of mags from the 60"s. I miss those mags, they got me into loving cars

I noticed that and don't think I ever saw them. I was born in 62 I met his Vette somewhere around 1966. I remember sitting in the car when I was just a little guy!
Don was a real car guy. He had GTO's, a Bugatti, several MGA's and a few others I can't remember. I do remember his wife drove a Karman Ghia and he had a Datsun Pickup!
He was a mechanic at Delta Airlines so nothing was too much for him.
Great car guys always create their replacements.
My Grandfather was a machinist and is responsible for my interest in machines.
We owe them and have a responsibility to create our legacy and replacements.
Sorry for your loss.
The picture is great. Love the C-1's.
Thank you for sharing your mentor with all of us.

Don was truly a remarkable man. Married to one woman his whole life, raised 2 great kids and always had time for me and my stupid questions about cars. In fact, my parents where his kid's Godparents.
I never realized how great he was till I saw a picture of myself sitting in this same Corvette with an ice cream cone and looking like I was sticky head to toe with him in the passenger seat smiling from ear to ear. I can't imagine letting a dirty sticky little boy sit in my Vette...of course I have Oyster Interior and he had black!!
I hope I can encourage, mentor and teach someone half as much as Don did for me.
Thanks for your kind words. I'm sharing all these comments with his Son and Daughter. They are having a blast reading them!
Hi tv,
My first experience with a Corvette was in 1958 and it was a new car that a friend of my brother had. They were in college.
I looked at it about a half dozen times and wasn't allowed to sit in it or even get too close. I don't think I ever saw it with the top up.
I was 14 years old.
Regards,
Alan
