I finally got some time and took down the spare on my 68. Per the build sheet the car came with the red line tires, I was surprised to find a new GoodYear Red line . I checked it over against the NCRS guide and it seems correct and has a period correct Good Year label on it. I'm not familiar with the date coding stamped in the side wall so can't tell if this is a repo or a period correct GoodYear that was purchased in the 69 to 70 time frame. Any thoughts on what it is?
i think the "LK" part means late 68 L=68 K= October
Rim look likes it was definitely mounted on the car at some point, so maybe somebody has to put the spare on an used it, then in 69 bought 5 new tires and threw a "new spare" back in?
[QUOTE=Tiger Joe;1594749989]i think that last pic is the date code.

Thanks ,
It's a pretty original car with only 37,000 miles. When I got it it had GoodYear Eagles on it. They looked great but were dated 1985 so I trashed them and installed repo red lines.
I agree, I don't think it's an assembly line tire but most likely part of the first replacement set. These tires were notorious for short life spans.
Hi ST,
I'm sorry I can't help with dating before 1970.
It does look like a nice tire!
While the wheel weights appear to be the MICRO brand, they're on the outside of the wheel which would indicate the wheel/tire were at least balanced after they left St.Louis.
To my eye that tire looks quite 'fresh' for a tire that might be close to 50 years old?!!?
Regards,
Alan

Alan,
It didn't look that nice when I pulled it from the carrier, I had just finished cleaning it up.
Hi 62,
If you get a little wiff of the air at the valve stem you'll likely be able to tell if it's St.Louis air or not.
Again, that LOOKS like a nice old tire.

Alan
