1970 Roadster. Had this car inspected, but am not sure where to put the value. Need some help from you experienced guys. I'm a little scared by the rust issues but am not sure if my expectations just need to be adjusted. Price is $15k pretty firm.
1) Birdcage is shot just from the photos, not sure how bad the kick panel areas look but guessing pretty bad... meaning you would have to significantly repair or just replace the whole thing. Then you run into issues w/ DMV since birdcage has the VIN and when you're all done you might end up with a special state VIN. Also if you don't fix it soon, it's a significant safety issue for you and your passengers. So expect $3-4k if you do the repairs yourself based on some threads I've seen recently out here.
2) Paint: expect to pay $6500+. That paint is worse than fair based on photos.
3) While the car is apart may as well do a whole lotta everything else. $$$

Hi H,
Photos 6 and 7 show a VERY rusty frame.
The windshield frame is likely just the BEGINNING of how rusty the birdcage is.
There is NO reason to knowingly buy a rusty Corvette!
If the owner would offer to GIVE you this car and $5000 you should respectfully decline.
I hope you Keep Looking!
Regards,
Alan
Wow, you usually have to look harder to find the rust on the windshield frame that most of these cars have, but those 2 pictures are remarkable.
The first thing you notice on that car is that black wasn't offered that year, but the paint is in such poor condition it didn't matter. But as everyone correctly stated, that level of frame rust makes the car have zero value.
Anyone some pics of what I should expect rust-wise for a car in the low $20s?
There are a bunch of solid cars out there in the $20k to $25k range. What's important to you? Automatics are cheaper, coupes are cheaper, '70's bring a little more money because of the higher compression motors and the short production run. If you're set on a chrome bumper car, the '72's tend to be a little less due to the net horsepower rating change.

Well I'm looking at 69-70, convertible, and manual. So all the expensive stuff of course. :-/
Hate to see a '70 go Tango Union, but the expense of bringing it back would put you further upside down than a frightened ostrich. Maybe someone with a nice trouble-free frame and pristine running gear could make the deal fly, but even that might be iffy. Fist bump for posting the find and asking for input, it saved you a boat load of money, worry, frustration and remorse.

Here are some details from the inspector:
I second that opinion, this car is in need of a new frame, cage and mounts. Unless you want to spend another $10-$15k I'd walk. But that's just me, not a pro but I've seen a few C3s
