i have been looking at maybe buying another C3 , it is a nice 78 ,, red with auto trans , around 40,000 miles , very vice car. It is priced at almost 22000.00 .. I just think it is way over priced, even though it is a very nice car inside and out .. Any advise on what a good fair price would be or a good offer to make ?? Thankyou
$22,000 is a great price... for the SELLER. You can find a very nice automatic '78 with that many miles for $8-$14 depending on overall condition, options, etc.
Definitely sounds like too much money by quite a few thousand. Is there something substantial and verifiable that has been done recently to justify that cost like a truly excellent paint job or a crate engine? If not you have quite a LOT of bargaining room.

I think the motor is original to the car,, it may have been re painted , and it is very nice but it still seems way overpriced ..
I paid 18,600 for my 78 L82 4 spd s/a paint car from a dealership. Outstanding garage kept 2 owner condition with 77,000 miles. You don't mention if it's an L82 or not but even if it is 22k sounds high even with low miles.

Then almost certainly far overpriced in the current market. From what I can tell the current fair value for a low-mileage automatic transmission '78-'79 with everything working, decent paint and good rubber (tires AND hoses) is about what it cost originally.
