Hi all - I have a 1970 with manual windows. My driver's side is really hard to roll up/down...and when rolling it up, it squeals the last inch or so of travel. Any ideas what might be wrong, and how easy/hard it will be to fix it?
It could be the tracks... but it could also be a staple from the upper outer or inner window felts hitting the glass... it could also be a door window adjustment pad with no felt left on it. (shown below).. If the crank is hard, take the door panel off lube everything including the crank housing then try it again.
But to remove the door panel, you start by taking the door crank handles off the car. You'll need a tool to do this that you can get from any parts store.
Then you remove the inside door open handle by pulling it slightly open... once you do this you'll see a single screw on the backside that holds it.
After you remove the handle inspect the door pull control where the handle slips inside.... the pot metal ears tend to break off these and if they are missing and the screw breaks down the road there is a good chance you'll screw up your door panel... so it would be a good time to replace this if it's defective.
Once you have those two items removed, remove the door panel screws at the top and then at the bottom inside the door area there are two screws that hold clips to the door assembly. Remove those and you can lift off the door panel. In the picture below you can see the black clip on the orange door to the right.

Thank you for this information...can you elaborate on this part? Do you have any pictures of the ears that break off that you are talking about?
If you look to the upper left of the red dot you'll see two ears that the pull handle slides into. To install the handle you'll need to use a screw driver to slightly pull that portion of the control outward... But the ears that the handle slide into break off when these things age.... So just check to see before you install the handle.
