Default Part Stamp Meaning

Who knows this?

'73 L48 Coupe, on the Windshield Wiper Motor Arm is this stamp:

What does the stamp "AM" on it mean?

Not losing sleep over this stuff, but I just find these facts interesting and want to hear from those that made history.

Thanks.

I'm guessing that it's a manufacturer's mark.

Lot's of parts have letters and logos stamped on them, by whoever manufactured them. Other marks that are somewhat common are "AAC", which is found on original ashtrays and 63-67 rear seat track brackets, the "double mountain" stamp on hood hinges and other parts, "Atwood" on hood supports and the "SMC" logo on oil and gas caps.

+1 I sure its a manufactures mark.
I guess if they had problems with a part failing they could tell who made and who to blame and who not to.

Allot of sub contractors involved in assembly line manufacturing

Hi,
I agree with Marshal about the large number of suppliers used by GM for production.
Someone put together a list of just FASTENER suppliers and there are more than 200 companies on it. Each of them has their own mark and for some suppliers more than one mark.
Regards,
Alan

Here's an interesting stamp on the top of differential crossmember.
