Lot's of parts have letters and logos stamped on them, by whoever manufactured them. Other marks that are somewhat common are "AAC", which is found on original ashtrays and 63-67 rear seat track brackets, the "double mountain" stamp on hood hinges and other parts, "Atwood" on hood supports and the "SMC" logo on oil and gas caps.

I agree with Marshal about the large number of suppliers used by GM for production.
Someone put together a list of just FASTENER suppliers and there are more than 200 companies on it. Each of them has their own mark and for some suppliers more than one mark.
