Default Setting New Odometer

I managed to break the needle off my '79 85mph speedometer. Moral: don't do any work on your 'vette when significantly medicated due to pinched nerves

I've found a replacement at a reasonable price but wonder about the odometer setting. The replacement has 20k+ more miles than mine.

Can I swap the odometers with reasonable ease? If not what do I do?

It would be easier to reset the odometer on the one you found...assuming that the speedo and odometer work properly. Doing so is pretty simple and the procedure is readily found on the internet.

Take a digital photo of your present speedo to document the car's actual miles; then reset the odometer on the new one and take another pic. Or, just take one pic with both speedos showing the same miles on them. That should justify manipulating the odometer to anyone's satisfaction.

Why not just replace the needle on your original?

The tiny shaft that the needle attaches to broke off with the needle.

Thanks. I'll look up the procedure.
