Hood latches- paint or no paint?
For a 71 LS5 would the female hood latches be painted satin black or left bare? They appear to have some sort of oxide coating and I think I saw a picture of Alan's that did not have paint on them.

Hi ST,
The hood latches were originally plated with zinc (medium gray) or manganese (dark gray) phosphate.
Various venders (Eastwood, Paragon, etc.) sell a phosphate paint that is a good approximation of the original plating. It's the darker gray.

Alan
Flash makes it look a bit shinier than it actually is.

I painted mine with Krylon 1613 and it came out great. No "striping" whatsoever. It's been 13 years of hot engine temps and it looks as good as day one. I'm wondering if you got some fluid on the underside of your hood that hadn't gotten cleaned off well?
