Glad I found this
I wondered why I wasn't able to stab the distributor completely. I pulled it and looked inside the engine with a bright flashlight. I saw this laying next to the oil pump shaft. So, I used an extendable magnet and pulled out a small roll pin that used to be attached to the oil pump priming tool that I had recently used. The distributor dropped in just like it should and all is well now. I think I dodged a bullet on this one. Just a heads up for anyone using a similar tool.
