I am almost ready to put the dash back in my 81. I just need to get the heater core installed and then it should be time for the newly recovered dash to be put back in.Dash recovered with vinyl and almost ready to go back in. Dash before recovering with the cracks repaired. The other parts of the interior that i have recovered. The were all silver to start with.
After sanding the cracks flat. I used JB weld Plastic bonder to repair all of the cracks and sanded them until they were smooth. Then I uses 3M 1357 contact adhesive and glued the vinyl to the surface. The glue makes the vinyl soft and very pliable.
It was black vinyl from Jo Anne's fabrics. It runs about $20 a yard but they run sales and I got it for $10 a yard. It is suppose to be Marine vinyl so I will just have to see how it holds up. I bought 4 yards and am no were close to running out but I still have the door panels and T-top liners to do so I may have to go get some more.
I must ask about the JB Weld plastic bonder you used. Is it semi-flexible? If not won't it easily break away from the original flexible dash material if knocked or pressed in the wrong place?

I was concerned about that but after it had dried for several days and I had sanded it smooth I tried pressing on the center repair (which was quite large) and it was still flexible and did not offer to seperate or crack at all. Only time will tell.
