Default 1979 Rallye Wheels

Does anyone know what year rallye trim rings will fit a 1979? I looked at a set yesterday and they weren't as deep as my rings.

Hi Pw,
The trim ring for the rally wheels on 68-82 Corvettes were all the same size.
They didn't change during the years they were produced.
However, there are trim rings for other GM cars that are slightly different in appearance and depth…. for instance, the ring used on 67 Corvettes.
Regards,
Alan

Thank you for the information. I found a set off of a 1980 that I am going to look at.

Are the aftermarket ones with the grippers all the way around fit better than the stock 4 tang or whatever you call them attachment points?

I found the trim rings on my 73 are all aftermarket. They fit and look good. I have't had any issues with them. I've never had the originals so I don't know about any differences between the two.

Hi pmr,
If all 4 of the 'clips' on the original style trim rings are in good condition the rings stay on the wheels just fine.
I think the attraction of the trim rings with with the grippers around the perimeter is their cheap price.
Regards,
Alan

Thank you once again Alan. I would have assumed 68's had different trim rings, since they were 15x7's instead of 15x8's. I learned something today.

Alan is right about the original GM design trim rings fitting all 68-82 Corvettes. On 68's, the original rings go all of the way close to the vertical face of the wheel. On the 8 inch rims there is a small gap there. However the designers of the aftermarket gripper rings messed them up in their shape. They will NOT fit on a 68 7 inch wheel. Potential buyers please be aware of this. Lou.

It is the shape of the gripper aftermarket rings, not their depth. Their shape hits the 7 inch wheel and you can not force them deep enough for them to grab the wheel edge. Lou.
