Default Where are Numbers located on 1981 Corvette Engine?

Hi,

I'm familiar with where the numbers are on a motor on the 1960s and 1970s vettes. But I recently bought a 1981 and want to check if the numbers match, but I can't find where the numbers are located. I found this photo on the site saying it is the numbers on the motor of a 1981 vette, but I can't find that same pad with the numbers on my motor, but I'm not sure if I'm looking at the right place. Could anyone be more specific about where those numbers are located on my motor?

Thanks!

Phil

Thanks so much Alan. I found that photo online (from this site) where someone was just mentioning their '81 was numbers matching. I just can't seem to find numbers like those on my motor and was hoping someone might know where I can look to find them. Thanks again!

The other number is the sequence number of the vehicle the engine was first installed in.

Hi b,
The shape of the pad changed but not the location (as far as I know!)
Regards,
Alan

Added: I just looked at the 81 AIM and UPC 6, Sheet 2, indicates the pad is still in front of the right side head.

If your VIN # is not on that pad it's NOT the original motor. The build date & vin # are only stamped on the pass. side pad. Cast in #'S are casting # & cast date.
