LT1 and 454 are equal to me.
Red with black leather is, in my opinion, more desirable than Orange with Tan.

The LT1 looks too "messed with" and also more likely to be fake. What gears? My 70 LS5 has 3:70s and is winding pretty good on the highway. Also not a fan of the luggage rack but would not be a deal breaker on the otherwise "right" car.

That's one issue I see with the lt1, looks like someone polished up the engine with steel wool or something

I will say I am a bit biased also, as I have a top flight 72 LT1, but I do not believe there are enough pics to really make much of a judgement just based on pics. Also, would not knock the engine bay on the LT1 because someone went a little over the top detailing the engine. In addition the LT1 has it's original smog setup, if someone was really messing with it that would be the 1st piece to go.
Just my 2 cents..........I know it is worth just that.

I'm a big fan of both the LT-1 and LS5 engine options. They have a very different feel, though. The LT-1 revs and provides power way up in the RPMs. It makes the car feel like a sports car. The LS5 is a torque monster. It revs slowly and there's not much past 4500 RPMs or so. It makes the car feel like a muscle car.
I went back and forth between a '72 LT-1 and the '70 LS5 that I ended up buying. To me those are the best years of the respective engine options. The '70 LS5 has more power than the later ones, and the '72 LT-1 provides much easier documentation than the '70 and '71 cars.
Current values are fairly close right now with condition and documentation driving values with either. Who knows in the future.
