The cars of my youth, i owned all 3 at the same time, while in my late teens, early 20's. Fun times!

Default First Ride

1980 Formula... bought it when I was 17. Wish I still had it but my vette will more than make up for it one of these days.

This is the only old car I have a picture of online. All the others are stuck in a photo album somewhere.

53 Chevy; wish I had never gotten rid of it!!!

The way I see it, the Corvette wasn't exactly designed from the "ground up" as a sports car. It was designed as a "sporty two seater", built using as many existing Chevrolet components as possible, as was the GM practice at the time. One of the objects was to keep costs down, as the Corvette wasn't a high volume car. Therefore, a number of "heavy", full size Chevy parts made up the car, unlike a Porsche, for example, which was designed as a small, light weight, sports car, from the outset.

I know, it's crazy that I ever saw the car again. I knew the second owner of the car, as he was a co-worker. He didn't drive it too much, as he complained about the gas mileage...he formerly drove a Ford Pinto!!

He kept it for two years, then sold it to a friend of another co-worker of ours. This 3rd owner had a reputation as a wild driver, someone who had wrecked a couple of cars, before buying the Chevelle, so I figured that it would be a "goner" within a short period of time. Fortunately, I was wrong. (the last time I saw the Chevelle, in person, was in 1975)

One other thing I forgot to mention, as to why I traded off the Chevelle....With an engine as powerful as the 454 was, GM put a serious clutch/pressure plate behind it. The clutch pedal practically took two feet, to push in. One day, I was on my way home from work, and caught a REALLY LONG red light. By the time the light turned green, my left foot was aching. At that point, I decided that while the car had been fun to own, as the late BB King song said, 'The Thrill Is Gone', and a week or so later, I had a different car.....

First car I bought was a 1969 Charger SE. I had it about 5 months when I came across the '67 Corvette I bought. I kept it, too, and it turned into the more or less daily driver, although the Corvette was not a weekend driver, either. I just varied which one I drove to work and school, based on what I felt like that day.

Charger began having problems, most annoying was a vapor lock. An electric pump at the tank solved that, but a front spindle was broken and rewelded in its past (a whole 5 years) and I traded it.

I've learned since there were only 503 SE made. Rare car, and I traded it for a Vega.

These are all more recent. Don't have scans of the older pics.

My FIRST corvette. 95 Coupe. Sold it to buy a silver 98 Coupe, which I can't seem to find a pic of.

My old Tundra. Still looks good. Traded in on my new Tundra.

2008 Infiniti G37 sport coupe. Fast little car. Got bored with it, though. Couldn't get rid of my Corvette Fever.

My first car ever was a '62 Corvair that I bought for $25 while working at McDonalds.

Wish I had pictures of that and my $125 '71 Challenger.

After selling my first car a '71 'cuda to buy my '72 vette, I always regretted selling it. After searching for awhile, I bought this '70 'cuda. Here's a pic from 1981 when I brought it home. I have managed to keep this one.

I had a 69 Charger R/T S/E in the same color combination when I was in high school in the early 70's. Like you I had no idea how rare it was. I'd sure like to have it back.

Hello Carter, yes it is an original AAR (BS23JOB) and like Cuisinart mentioned, Panther Pink paint (Plymouth called it Moulin Rouge but it was better known by Dodge's name). I'm going thru the drive train right now and just finished the motor.

My Charger was also starting to leak in the right corner of the rear glass into the trunk. Bad design, no way for the water to drain and if it sat, like on a parking lot all day at work, it began rusting.

I got my '67 and it had its own issues.

As a Mopar man, do you remember Gary Breyer at B&J and later at his own shop on S. Prairie (B & H Speed & Custom's, I think).

I know what you mean....prior to getting my Corvette, in 2001, I had a 1977 Pontiac T/A. I bought it brand new, never drove it in the winter. Similar situation on those cars, as water could "gather" where the rear window curved down to meet the quarter panel. Over time, it caused rust, which was hidden by the trim, and next thing you knew, the channel rusted through, but you didn't know, until the quarter had a rust hole down where it met the rocker panel.....
