C3s Kick Butt at Goodguys Nationals in Columbus
From Goodguys website, "On the east side of the Ohio Expo Center, AutoCrossers were shredding rubber as they cut and carved corners with a cool 5k on the line for the annual Sponsor Shootout event. A total of 16 racers battled it out, each representing a Goodguys AutoCross series sponsor. In the end, it was Corvette vs. Corvette as Danny Popp and Chris Smith went head-to-head for the grand finale. Popp dropped the hammer down with a sub-60 second lap to claim the win for JRi Shocks. Smith, driving for Forgeline Wheels, knew he had to push the 72-hour Corvette to the max to dethrone Popp and nipped a few cones on his final run, each resulting in a penalty and an eventual runner-up finish. Other big winners on the track included Ryan Mathews (PRO), Matthew Braun (Street Machine) and Aarik Gualt (Truck)."
Ryan Matthews finshed first in the Pro class in Detroit Speed's all American Vette.
Smitty finished second in the event.

From RAFT Motorsports (Danny Popp) Facebook page, "I would like to take a moment and thank JRi Shocks for having me and the RAFT Motorsports Inc. gang represent them in the 2017 Goodguys Rod & Custom Association Sponsor Shootout out during their 20th Anniversary PPG Nationals. It was a challenge to even make the event after our hardships a couple weeks ago. We struggled during regular Pro class competition and didn't place as well as hoped. Ryan Mathews and his Detroit Speed Corvette won the Pro class, and he completely showed why he is a worthy champion. Chris Smith and his RideTech Corvette have came a long way in a short time and finished 2nd. Robby Unser and his new crazy Speedway Motors Camaro finished 3rd, .001 seconds ahead of me finishing 4th. We could run times, but couldn't do it clean.
During the shootout , somehow I manage to wedge my head out of my keister. Had two solid qualifying runs resulting in being the top qualifier. This gave me the confidence boost I needed to proceed. We ran all of the strongest cars through eliminations and posted the fastest clean run of the field during the weekend against Ryan in the semi finals a 59.572 landing me in the final round against Chris. Chris plugged two cones in his final run, allowing us to make an easy run for the win.
I feel very fortunate and blessed to be able to have repeat wins in this event. I have the best crew chief ever in my son Nathan, and a great group of friends and supporters that are as much a part of these results as anyone."

Danny Popp wining really isn't much of a surprise. He always seems to be a round in the end.
Congratulations to him.

I had my granddaughter there for that, it was very cool competition to watch. Even cooler, she's only 3, and she got a real kick out loved watching the 'vettes autocross. Especially Chris Smith's yellow corvette (she loves yellow).
Gotta raise her right, get her hooked early....
