Searched a bunch of sites, but just can't come up with a good suffix code id on this block. Anyone want to take a crack? Thank you.

TRT is a 74 or 79 truck block. Based on the 4 in the VIN derivative, I'd say 74.

block casting- 3999289- 1772-78 454 (various HP and models)

T1128 TRT

T- Tonawanda engine plant
1128- date, I think this means Nov 28th

TRT- engine cod 1974 truck engine, 245 hp, 400 lbs torque

C4F135744 is the partial VIN from the truck

C told me it was a truck
4- 1974
F- Flint Michigan plant
135744 is the last 6 of the VIN

Here's what confuses me. Deck height is 9.8, not 10.2, and clearly deck height has not been milled. Also, the "PASS" under the timing cover. Is this common? Is an El Camino or C10 considered a Passenger 9.8 deck height, even though designated "truck"? Are the 366's and big truck motors the only ones that have a tall deck? Thank you.

not all truck engines are tall decks. There never was a 454 tall deck. no C10- C30 got a tall deck from the factory.

Tall deck blocks went into the large (C-50 C-60 etc) trucks and were 366 and 427 Cu in.

basically just forget all about tall decks.

PASS casting really doesn't mean much, when that block was cast at the foundry they had no idea what vehicle it would end up in ultimately.
