Default 1973 Heater/A/C help

I am looking at a 1973 coupe to buy that has a frozen compressor and I have some questions.

1) If the compressor is frozen, can I just replace it or are likely to be more issues such as the heater?
2)Does the 1973 use R134?
3) Given the freon pressure is it possible to do the work at home?
4) I have a couple of C3 but anything i should look for on a 1973 L82?

Thanks in advance.

Stephen

If the compressor is frozen, (not just the front bearing, but the compressor itself) more likely than not there will be metal in the whole system. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. You'll need to fully flush the evaporator and condenser, the lines, and replace the Dryer and VIR or orifice. In 1973, nobody had even dreamed of R134, all systems used R-12. IF you have a vacuum pump and gauges, nothing you couldn't do yourself as long as you're comfortable working with refrigerant and A/C systems.
