Parking Brake Rebuild
I am working on rebuilding an 81 and while doing the parking brake assembly for the passenger side there was a clicking after reassembly. I quickly realized that the little cups that hold the springs to the brake shoes where hitting the backs of the wheel studs. I had to disassemble it and add a small washer to the back of the retaining pin to shorten them just a little so they would not hit. I'm not sure if the new ones are to long or if the wheel studs have been changed and are bigger. The old pins where bent maybe to clear the studs or maybe just old. Any way it is back together and I am ready to tackle the other side.
Resurrecting this old post to see how the washers on the back of the pins held up over time. I just started rebuilding my parking brake and encountered the same issue - the retaining pins are a little too long, making the spring retainers hit the back of the wheel studs.
I saw some other posts mentioning grinding down the pins, but I don't see how that would work since the flat area at the tip of the pin is already pretty short. So it looks like a washer behind the pin might be the way to go...
