Default Surface rust treatment

So I have been buying up NOS lower shielding for the 70. They still have the stickers and are in great shape. But the backsides have some minor surface rust. Any suggestions on how to remove it and what to treat the pieces with to prevent the rust from returning?

If the rusting is light, just use some ScotchBrite to scrub it off. More than that? Powered wire brush to knock it off.

If you want to paint them, I would recommend priming with self-etching primer (for bare metal parts); or you could use a 'rust converter' to chemically change the remaining rust into an inert material that can be painted.

Another alternative is to use Rustoleum for the paint job. I think using POR-15 would be overkill for that small job.

try Evapo-rust,it is a liquid that comes in gallon jugs, put your parts in a bucket, cover it and let them sit overnight.

Steel wool works great if the rust is not to thick.

I would suggest naval jelly(typically available at home depot) followed by satin clear paint from a rattle can. Naval jelly is pretty amazing stuff, dissolves rust but doesn't damage the base metal.
