Default starter

1968 corvette - I needed to replace the dust shield on the bell housing, in order to do that I had to remove the hitachi starter motor . All went well ,I replaced the starter with the shims that were there. Bolted up nicely. Went to start the car starter sounds real bad , car will turn over but won'start, What next???

Describe "sounds real bad". Is it a high pitched whine like a 60-70's Chrysler starter motor or a deep grinding sound?

It appears that the dust shield or clutch inspection plate makes contact with the flywheel. I might have to space it off the bell housing.

Why would you have to replace the clutch inspection plate?

Good thing you didn't beat up the ring gears -should be an easy fix.
