Starter noise or not?
I've been trying to find the source of a high pitched whining sound when I crank the engine and thus far haven't been able to pin down it's location for certain. The starter engages and disengages properly and in spite of my attempts to shim it as per the instructions nothing seems to change it. I thought I had found the noise when I pulled the inspection plate and found that it was bent and appeared that it was being hit by the crankshaft. I bought a new inspection plate and put everything back together and still have the noise. I suspect it may be coming from somewhere else, but it's hard to diagnose it when you're working by yourself. Does anyone have any idea as to what else it might be? Thanks in advance.

Not sure here but did you try starter shims , thin piece of aluminium that goes between the block and starter , 2 bolts that hold the starter on it slips on them . R
