Default Rear Spring and U-joints

How long does it take and what is a fair price to replace both U joints on a 1978 half shaft? Also, does a 1978 Corvette pace car have a multi leaf spring or a mono leaf spring? Thanks in advance.

If you take the half shafts off yourself not much. I took mine off myself and the changed the u-joints and balance them for around $175 include new solid Spicer u-joints. I am guessing if you want the shop to do it all $750 to $1,000 depending on how rusty things are.

To answer your second question a '78 from the factory would have had a multi-leaf steel spring. That doesn't mean that's what's on your car anymore.

Is $750.00 to $1000.00 for 2 u-joints and one shaft or 4 u-joints and both shafts excluding the drive shaft?

I was thinking all four, but that is just a guess. I would get in touch with your local Corvette Club and ask where you should take it to have the work done. They should be able to recommend a reputable shop.

Much cheaper to have them rebuilt.

Or order using the exchange service and ship your old ones back.

This is about what I paid to have them rebuilt locally and you won't have to pay for shipping. The cost will increase if you have the labor of someone else removing and reinstalling them.
