Default Cable???

78 stock l48 After reading some posts about the fresh air intake in the cowl being clogged decided to look at mine. Pulled back the screen and all looked good, clear.
what I did see was a wire cable about a 1/16" with a crimped loop lying behind the screen loose not connected to anything, also was about 1/4" bolt in there. The cable is solid into the cowling. Is a bracket there that is part of the air inlet valve. Anyone know what's going on here?

Yes has a.c. Cable seems solid into cowl, could not get any movement pulling on it.

Believe it or not that cable, one each side, about 6" long, is factory accident protection.
Meant to keep the fenders from crushing back into the windshield during front end impact.

Wow, that cable seems fairly light gauge to hold up in an accident but will connect it to the bracket on the fender, thanks.

I downloaded all my photo bucket pics back to my computer and now I just upload straight onto the forum as I need to. On your bucket page there is a "download album" feature .
