As a new member on this forum & a first time owner of a c3 (1975) Convertible, I wanted to say "thank you" in advance to those of you who are much more knowledgeable and willing to share your vital tips, suggestions and/or information with us. "Thank you", its greatly appreciated.
That being said, thus begins the numerous questions:
I noticed that the fuel gauge on mine is showing it had a full tank (pegged full in fact), yet I knew it wasn't anywhere near full. I took it out yesterday for the very first time and put 10 gallons in it. My thought was that, since it has been sitting in storage for a few years. if I were to simply put some additional fuel in the tank, it might correct the reading, but alas, NO change in the reading.
Is this a common issue and if so, what is likely the issue or solution to the problem?
I had the same problem on my 69. I climbed under the rear bumper to see if I could see anything obvious - and I found the wire for the sensor just dangling (not plugged into the sender plug). I put a slight crimp on the connector to tighten up the fit and plugged it back in - and it worked mucho better! Hopefully yours is just as easy to fix!
You most likely have a wiring issue. It could be a problem with the sending unit wire or it could be with the ground wire (or connection). High probability of being in the rear of the car; very unlikely to be a problem in the gauge cluster. It is NOT a fuel gauge problem.
