I have a 1973 corvette with a 454 numbers matching motor. I have removed the motor for rebuilding and in place I have another 454 street motor(445hp) with an Edelbrock TorkerIIr manifold and Edelbrock 750 Performer carb. I noticed that the Edelbrock intake manifold does not have a hole/fitting to screw in the Tee fitting that leads on one side to the Trans Modulator Assembly and the other side of the tee to the Vacuum Tank. What can I do to access vacuum to operate these two items or do I have to replace the intake with one that has the hole in it to screw in the tee.
Unless I am mistaken about how the fuel vapor canister works in the '73 cars, the line going to it should be connected to "ported" vacuum, rather than manifold vacuum. That is the signal line for allowing the canister to PURGE, and you do NOT want it to purge during idling....it should purge only when the car is running on the road (to guarantee having a smooth idle). So you should find a fitting on the carb which provides "ported" vacuum for that.
The trans modulator vacuum line does need to come from "manifold" vacuum source. You can connect that directly to the manifold (drill & tap) or to one of the carb's existing manifold vacuum ports. You can "T" items provided with manifold vacuum together, if you want. However, if you have power brakes, you should NOT "T" anything to that fitting. It should come from the carb base (or intake manifold) via a large fitting and be dedicated to the brake booster ONLY.
