Well, I need your help. I purchased a 1971 coupe last summer, a driver at best (for now). I just got it back on the road this past weekend after completely redoing the rear, drive shaft to gas tank. It drives quite well I must say. This is my first attempt at any kind of a restore. Where I need the help is with the color combo for the year. The further I get into decoding it, it seems it might be a unique combination. The trim tag shows G09 (which I think is started production in Feb on the 9th) with an interior of 420 (saddle deluxe) and 983 (brands hatch green), yes someone before me painted it red but I have found green over spray throughout. Back to the unique part, it is a 1971 car (VIN 194371S106238) and from anything I have found online and in books, this interior/exterior combo is unique. I doubt this but am curious. Your thoughts? Pictures of tag and VIN attached.

Hi CBG,
You're probably right. A somewhat rare combination.
The Saddle interior wasn't one of the colors suggested to be used with the Brands Hatch Green exterior.
But it's a nice combination, so it was probably ordered more than just a few times.
Regards,
Alan

The time build code (G09) confirms your car arrived at the station on the assembly line where the trim tag was attached on 2/9/71. Actual production could have begun the day before or earlier if a Sunday or a holiday was involved.
My Better Half's 71 convertible is Brand Hatch with saddle interior.
Thanks gents! I do like the green and saddle color combo. Mr. D, your '65 is indeed sharp!! I've read where changing a car color is not easy work but I'm a bit of a purist so would like to restore to original detail. Is is worth it to do so? I know, only I can decide if it is worth it but it is going to need painted one way or another eventually.
Thanks again for the input. I've been a casual reader for the past year and enjoy all the comments and guidance this forum provides!
I'm leaning heavily toward taking it back to the BH Green, plus my family is in favor of it too. All in due time I suppose. Certainly need to read up more on prep, doing it myself vs. having it done, etc.
