I know lots has been written about ... "The Pump" ... I have square eyes from reading. What I have is a working one that I would like to give some love ... and ... I know ... you can gut it, disable it, etc, etc, but that is not an option. I also believe they are non serviceable from what I have read but I have never known any intelligent person to run their car till it seizes. (they clearly gave the car some love).
What are your thoughts or what have you done you guys that think like me?? ... and what is the little hole in the top of the housing for?? ... maybe a special drop of oil occasionally??
Hi OZ72,
Even the Chassis Service Manual offers NO information on maintaining or repairing the air injector pump.
???
Perhaps for you 'no news" IS "good news". Just leave it alone.
Regards,
Alan

Thanks for the reply Alan ... it made a high pitched whistle the other day which prompted the question, things generally don't get better.(if you know what I mean)
One option, if you really do have an issue with it, is to send it to Bill Hodel for refurbishment. He is very reasonable, has a quick turnaround and is a good guy to deal with. I realize that shipping is an issue for you since you live outside the states. He can be contacted at billhodel@sbcglobal.net.

A BUMP from a previous post ... My year is off to a good start ... my smog pump is whistling more now and I can feel air coming from what appears to be a section of missing gasket.(45+ years and it is falling apart ) I can also feel some of you, as you read this, are saying get rid of it but that is not an option, She is a Survivor and I will respect that.
I have been researching my heart out as to why it is whistling and can I get replacement gaskets or make my own? Do I want to even go there?? Has anyone had this issue or do you have any thoughts as to how you would tackle the problem?? ... One thing for sure is that it stays. ... Thanks in advance!!

I had Bill Hodel rebuild/restore mine just before Christmas. He did a terrific job and very fast turn around. He replaces bearings, and rotor seals, refinishes the housing etc. Mine was an original 68 with 37,000 miles but I didn't want the pump to seize or grenade. If you decide to get yours done Bill's the man.
