Default Tire Size

I know there are numerous threads about tire sizes but after searching I would like input regarding my rear tires. I have replaced the front tires on my 71 coupe recently with 215/65/15's. I would like to run a taller tire in the baack for a bit more ground clearance. Perhaps 225/75/15's?
Don't want anything too radical that will cause rubbing issues.

Thanks to the forum for solving my front end problem....the problem was bad tires.

I run 225/60 R15's on the front and 255/60 R15's on the rear of my 76. All T/A radials and have had no problems with rubbing and I like the stance.
There are presently mounted on 7" Champ 500 wheels with 3.75 back spacing, but soon to be American Torque Thrust 7's on the front and 8's on the rear with 3.75 back spacing.

A 225/75R15 is approx. 28 1/2 inches tall. This is at least 1 1/2 inches taller than a stock tire

I run 225 70 15 up front, and 235 70 15 in the back, i also have 8.5 x 15 Rims on my car... 235/60/15 front and 255/60/15 back are also popular here in Germany, both give you a slight raked look... There is no Problems with clearance of the tires on either one with stock Suspension...

We put 225--70--15 on all four corners of our 71 coupe, and they fill the wheel wells really nice. After front & rear suspension re-build, I wasn`t happy with the stance, so I put 8" bolts in back, and the slightly bigger tires, now it looks great!

The stock size for the later C3's was 225/70R15, and later 255/60R15. Both of those are around 27.4" in diameter. You've gone smaller at the front with the 215/65R15s, which are only about 26" in diameter.

Either of the "stock" sizes should work well for what you're trying to accomplish, and will also keep the speedometer relatively accurate. 225/75R15 are about 28.3" in diameter, so they would make the speedometer read lower than your actual speed. In practical terms, this means that when you're driving along at 70mph on your speedometer, Officer Friendly will see 73mph (your actual speed) on his radar gun. That's something to consider there. Also, you'll loose a bit of torque at the wheels (effectively making your gearing "taller"), which will reduce acceleration (and braking) slightly. If you're looking at 65 and 75 profile tires, you're probably not drag racing, but again, it's something to be aware of.

Ooops, I missed that. And the link you posted has some good pics with sizes and info.

I really shouldn't hit the "post" button until after I've finished the first cup of coffee in the morning.
