71 vette screws
One issue I've been working on for the last year is trying to get our screws and screw kits cleaned up to make them correct. For instance, the 1968-1975 soft top weatherstrip screw kits are way off from the supplier we use. I spent two hours today researching the correct screws and nuts. One supplier we were using has flat washers and standard 10-24 nuts where the originals didn't use any washer and used a serrated washer nut (and both the nut and screw were black oxide, where the reproductions were black and zinc)

This is the screw used on my mid-January built 71.
It's a flat head, countersunk, cross-recess, screw.
It appears to be a bit flatter than the screw shown in Fig. E 8.1.
Are you also asking about ALL the screws for the front and side grills?
Regards,
Alan
What makes it odd is how small the cross-recess is compared to the diameter of the head.

Here are some of the screws.
The chrome plated front grill screws have a small oval head that is small enough to nestle down into the grill. The larger screws have a dark gray finish to match the painted areas of the grills. Those same screws are used for the center front grill.

The screws for the arts-vent grills are flat head, counter sunk, cross-recess.

The fender trim is an odd one. People are using a 'trim screw' that's available but not 'quite' right.

The wiper bay screws are a tall fillister, cross-recess, dark plated, thread cutting machine screw.

The side grill screws are chrome plated, oval head, counter-sunk, cross-recess, sheet metal thread screws.

The screw in the front side ws was very similar to the front grill screw but shorter. I would call it a self tapping screw with round washer about 1/2" long. The screw through the front of the ws lower extension looks to be either a #6 screw or a #8 screw with a #6 head x 5/8"l. The screw from the bottom up on the ws lower extension is a 10-24 x 3/4" pan head. The flanged hex head nut is different than the others used on the ws. The flange diameter is slightly smaller and it appears to be plated zinc. It is the only one that appears to be plated and that is the case for both sides that I removed.
I found both the nut and the 10-24 screw at Fastenal for the lower extension ws. As a bonus their screw is black stainless and the nut is stainless and appears similar to the cheap GM plating.
The other 10-24 screws for the front, middle, and vertical ws are very unique as are the oversized washers/flange. I have yet to find them anywhere. The best way to describe the screws is they are like the screw in the front most position on the front side weatherstrip but with 10-24 machine threads.
Hope this helps.
Kind Regards,
Bill
