Yes, the 68 antenna bezel is one year only and never reproduced to my knowledge. The 68 front spindle has the same bearing size as the 63-67's. It may be the same part, BUT it has larger bolt holes in it, making it one year only. I do not know if GM changed the spindle position, lower, on the 68's. They stated that they tweeked the front and rear suspensions for better handling than the mid-years.The 68 radiator support is patterned after the 63-67's, but the outer shape is different due to the different inner fender shape. Lou.
Cool i have a all stock numbers matching 68 corvette t-top 327 350 hp 4spd munci
I have the same except for a convertible. At least the previous owner kept the original exhaust manifold and a few other parts so I have those.
Most of the changes I have been making are minor. At least the engine is strong and there are low miles. In the future, I might have the engine rebuilt when it is needed. Also, repaint back to the original color.
Keep in mind, with about 50 years of ownership for our cars, so much can be changed. Lots of bubba's touching the car. And, back in the day, these cars weren't collectable. Example is through the years someone replaced the fan and clutch with some aftermarket generic one. Or replace the metal fuel line with rubber hoses and rest the filter on the engine (caused serious vapor lock until I changed it back)
If you need any Carb work, I highly recommend Lars (he is on the forum). He tuned my carb and replaced the aftermarket distributor with original equipment. Huge difference in responsiveness and performance after that.
I just want to warn you newer owners about your timing chain. GM put an aluminum timing chain gear with NYLON teeth on it, in our high winding 327/350 hp motors and also all of the 350's. They fail! My gear went when my 68 coupe had only 41,000 miles on it and the car was only six years old. Make sure your timing chain is okay, or replace it. I think a guy lost his original 68 327 engine four years ago, here in Myrtle Beach, due to the timing chain. Lou.

Great info. Will take a look at the timing chain. Thanks a bunch Lou.
The one's that the vendors try to sell have a different curvature to them. They are for the mid-year fender top, not the 68's. The new one that I have, has the correct curvature but it tilts the antennae too far to the front. Lou.

Do you sell them or do you know anybody that has that body antenna? Thank you lou much appreciated! Will post pics when my 68 is complete!
To explain to newer owners, I have owned my "beater", "the Rain Magnet" 1968 coupe for over 45 years, now. Anything that could break...did! I added the two rear tail light fiber optics to my car, since a 68 is the only year from 68-82 to have four real tail lights. I wrote in CF general my story titled: A long time chrome bumper owner speaks. Please check it out for your entertainment.
I also worked in maintenance at an automotive parts plant for 34 years and we made Corvette parts in Parma (Cleveland), Ohio. Lou Palfy.
Oh, they antennae body and cable is the same for a 67 and 68, I am pretty sure. The bezel is 68 only. Lou.
I went thru this same discovery process a while back and you were a big help to me in sorting it out at the time. I ran into an old photo of the parts I was dealing with but I don't recall the exact details. I am thinking that the parts in this photo are a mixture of new and original. I couldn't even get the body of that antennae to go far enough thru the fender to start the retaining nut on it. I do remember that part. Then there was the angle problem as you pointed out. When you say the bezel, you are referring to the black plastic piece right?
William, The black plastic piece is the antennae gasket. The chrome acorn shaped piece is the antennae nut. The bezel is the chrome bottom piece that is up side down in your photo.
That antennae mast is the 69-up one, and is incorrect. The 67-68 antennae has a threaded stud at the bottom with a small nut at the top of the threads. That antennae body looks correct to me, without checking one. Lou.

That's correct. The antennae mast I ended up using threaded into the base.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
