Default Odd or normal water pump ?

I got my rebuilt 3856284 2gm A58 water pump back yesterday and when deciding how to pump it back orange I noticed something. My screws to hold the plate in the back have regular screw driver heads. Al the ones I seen online have hex heads. I was shocked the screws my had regular screwdriver heads. I figured they would easily strip.
I even tried to remove them before the rebuild and they would not budge. They looked ancient and the gasket looked a lot thicker than modern day cardboard ones.

Has anyone ever seen screw head screws holding the plate on the back of their water pump ?
This was on a March 1969 427 AC car L 36.
picture included.
Thanks
jim

Hi Jim,
I think I would expect to see hex head bolts.
But?
In looking on line it appears that some rebuild kits for water pumps come/came with slotted screws.
So?
Regards,
Alan

Maybe thing was rebuilt a longgg tine ago. This water pump did look pretty old and that would explain what would appear to me to be a early 68 pump.
