Have have run BFG Radial TA RWL for a lot of years on my 78. Just put a new pair of 255 60 R15 on the rear (others were 15 years old) since I had a newer pair of TA's on the front.

The were about $150 ea (up from $95 each in 2002).

this may be true. But the current BFG's I don't think are manufactured that well. They are fine if you don't drive on them. Brown letters and all.
dont know if I will purchase another set.

OK, I understand there are some complaints about the RWLs turning brown (I haven't had that experience), but "not manufactured that well"? I have to ask what makes you think that. I actually do drive on them, often, at highway speeds.

i will be due in a couple of years but not sure after reading this thread which one to go for.i bought a cooper to replace an ancient spare and it looked good to me and had a fresh date.i have run Michelin light truck tires and have been very pleased with them.most likely a better tire than all of them.some may not like the look but i wanted something a bit better.

I don't like stupid tire names in bold white letters distracting from the rest of the car. Cooper Cobra definitely qualifies

I need to purchase a new set. Im leaning towards BFG. I'm undecided on the size. Seems if most have 255/60R15 or 225/70R15.

Any preference? I think I want the wider tire and I do have a close clearance issue between the front tire and wheel well opening. Pics below. Should I stick with the 255's all around? Smaller diameter in front? Not sure if the 70's are smaller in diameter or not.

Current wheel (aftermarket rim with spacer).

Borrowed 255 and no spacer.

I bought a set of 245/60R-15 BFGs this summer. I had several sets back in the '90s and loved them. Yes, these newer ones turned brown on me pretty quick.

My fix was a spray bottle of Wesley's Blech-Wite and one of those weird white Mr.Clean sponges from the supermarket. They do a nice job on stainless steel in the kitchen. Took all of 10 minutes in the driveway and they look nice again.

I have a black & white pic of my car from 1978 and it's just the ralley rims with black tires. Looks tough. Next time I might go that way.

Sizing depends on your car. Mine sits pretty low and fit without rubbing and handle beautifully. I used an online tire size calculator and found a thinner tire of the same diameter to use as a spare that actually fits in the tub.

The day I first saw my Vette, it was siting outside the tire store waiting to get new tires ~

The car had Dunlop GT Qualifiers, they looked like they had 50% tread left but, 2 of the 4 tires were splitting between the treads, the owner had the Cooper Cobras installed which I still have on and like, I haven't put many miles on them but, they look good and will remain until I burn them off when my new beast of a motor is installed soon...

Buy whatever you can afford, shave off the original white lettering and pop on a set of these:

Nothing classier or racier than Dunlops.

Never occurred to me there was such a thing as attachable tire letters. Even found some custom ones

I think these should solve the BFG browning issue. Just mount them black wall out and glue on a set of these:

235 60 15s up front and 255 60 15 are just right

Never had a cooper brown on me, if you dont like the lettering have them mounted black side out
wish goodyear would bring back some of their white lettered tires the script wasnt overbearing

Stick on letters are lame

And don't forget . . . under those old raised letters is white chocolatey goodness ! !

Watch the video right through to the end, he really comes up with a sweet looking wide white, and even better, he talks just like Tow Mater ! !

My car did not respond very well to mx and math tires sizes so i run a 255/60/15 on all 4 corners.

For the money, I'd go with Mickey Thompson ST radials. They are way better than BF Garbage in terms of handling. Just my $0.02
