TH400 Leaking
I have a 74 Corvette with L82 and TH400 - The car is well taken care of through the years and is a matching numbers car.
During the last winter the engine and trans was pulled due to an upper a-arm mount that was in a bad state.
At this point all seals were changed on the TH400.
The trans has since this been leaking after the car has been parked. I have never found out where the leak originates from and have changed the oil pan seal just to be sure.
I have just realized that the leak seems to occur when the car has been started and have been moved or driven (a short time 2-5 minutes) without engine and trans have reached working temperatures.
Does this make sense to anyone?
Best regards
Petter
You have looked at the rear seal and it is dry?
The pan gasket you installed is dry?
The vacuum modulator is dry?
The engine to transmission seam is dry?
Your description seems to indicate it only leaks when the transmission has internal pressure.
I have read other places that this can occur if there is to much oil in the pan due to wrong length on the dip stick as well as a oil filter that is to high in the rear. It has been said that oil will leak from the vent pipe in these cases.
