While removing my 27.5" copper radiator we apparently put a little hole in my old radiator. On the advice of the radiator expert working on it, he suggested it would probably be wise to re-core the original.
I took a few pictures of the original core. It had solder bloom as well as a lot of plugged areas of black gasket material. Here are a couple pics.
How bad was my original core?
Also, I found out, one of the tank does have Harrison embossed on on it but I was told I should have a tag clipped to it. It was missing. Does anyone know of anyone reproducing the Harrison radiator ID tags?
thanks
jim
I was told my 69 was suppose to have a clip on tag, but maybe it isn't suppose to? Does anyone else have a tag on their 427 car that looks like these?
On a side note, a lot of my era correct parts on this car seem to be all from 1968. My carb, starter, water pump I believe show 1968. My radiator support is an "early" one because it doesn't have press on clips for the support seal foam strips even though my 1969 march car is past the December 68 supposed cut off date.
I don't know if my car got leftovers from the previous year when built or the original owner had the parts replaced and 1968 parts were easier to get at the time or cheaper (which I can't believe).
That radiator was leaking long before you knocked a hole in it.
The upper part of the picture is where we scraped it pulling it out. Thats were I was told it sprung a leak. For the 400$ re-core fee, Im pretty happy with basically having a new radiator. Though when we put it in, we will be card boarding it up and wearing silk gloves if we have to.

All that green corrosion you see on the radiator core is a seeping water leak causing that.
Hi x,
I believe your 69 bb copper radiator would have an MH9 tag if the car is an automatic car and MJ9 tag if it's a 4-speed car.
The new 68-69 TIM&JG indicates the tag MAY be hidden by the radiator seal….. might you be able to use that to your advantage?
Regards,
Alan
I am almost certain you can see the tag on all the 69s with the 27.5 radiator. I know I can see it very clearly on my 390hp. I posted a pic of it awhile ago. I'll try to find the post and recopy the pic here.
Ok here is a pic of a original 69 radiator. The bottom pic shows the tag As tou can see it in the engine compartment. The bottom pic shows the top of the radiator and the little square cut outs on top. Does your recore have it? I think Dewitt's has the correct top on there cores. The top pic is of the tag itself which also has the number stamped below the MJ9.

I doubt if it has the square cut outs on top but I will check tonight.
It is kinda odd to me that they only reproduce 67 and 68? I wonder why. They look so close. All they would have to do is stamp what they have with a different set of numbers.

I agree. And I think the MJ9 was used for 1970 and possibly later for the 27.5 radiator. I need one (would like one) for my coupe. You might be able to modify the tags that are available but it will take some creativity.
