The docs look good.
Correct fonts and configuration all around. If they are fake, they have me fooled!! I would say the car is a genuine L88 but the engine will not be able to be verified original.

You have to ask the question, "Why does someone grind of just SOME of the numbers and not try to restamp it?" What remains is REAL IMHO!!!

And you are the buyer so that's all that really matters.

If I was laying out 6 to 8 thousand benjamins for an L88, I would want the stamp pad, VIN tag and speedo to look like this:

What makes you think its not restamped? That 8LO looks very restamped. How in the world can you deck a block and just miss SOME of the date stamp? The 8LO looks nice and crisp. The rest of the letters/numbers? Smooth as silk. Did the engine builder just get "lucky" and happen to miss the engine code? Its not even possible to just jump over some letters.

It could very well be the original block, but it can never be verified by a company like CCAS who I think have it literally down to a science by comparing the broach marks using the same technique as ballistics.

The engine was probably decked long ago before anyone cared about originality and then someone thought it would be a good idea to restamp the code in. Either way, that code is restamped. Its a shame they decked it because it might very well be the real deal born with motor. The 7 and 4 of the VIN stamp look like correct stampings. They have the right shape fonts. Either way, I would accept that car as a real deal L88.

If you get it post up more pics.

I wonder if they can make out any other numbers with a scope beyond that faint "0" or if they are too far gone. I've seen where people have filed off serial #s on firearms and they've been able to pull them. Would be worth a shot on this one clearly. Plus they might be able to tell if there were other #s at some time and it was re-stamped.
