Default Help me date this tire.....

I am not up to speed on dating tires. I'm posting pictures of what I think is the date stamp on the tire. Its a Firestone Wide Oval. Nice tire.

The wheel it is on appears to be a 1971 AG service replacement wheel. Very nice condition as well but service replacement. Thanks in advance!

These short codes (8 digits) can be a bit of a mystery, but the 500 could indicate the 50th week of 1970.

I believe this tire predates the DOT tire date codes.

Hi,
I'm wondering what the tire was used on….the side wall configuration is different than the Firestone RWL tire used when it was an option on Corvettes?
Was it a replacement tire that Firestone dealers sold?
Regards,
Alan

Here's the RWL configuration used on Corvettes.

Default Tire.

Sort of interesting. It is on a near new looking 68 AG wheel. But, the kicker is that the AG wheel is dated 1971 9th month 30th day.

I am going to separate the wheel and tire and sell as is. Any idea what it is worth?

It was produced in the 50th week of a year that ends in 0, but before the year 2000, when the DOT changed from 3 TO 4 digit date code. So the newest the tire could be would be the end of 1990. Too old to be safe on any any vehicle.

Hi,
I'll ask again… what was it used on?
Where did it come from originally?
Won't that affect it's value?
Is it a service replacement tire?
Regards,
Alan

I have a tire that looks like it that I got a couple of years ago because it was on a wheel I wanted.

Default Hey

I think I picked up at a swap meet some 20 years ago. It sort of is what it is. Probably a very late bias ply wide oval. Actually looks a little similar to the Good Year tires at about that time. I found a picture of 14 inch that looks like but not a 15 inch. Im going to break it off the rim and see if it will sell. See if the wheel will sell. I was mainly curious about the date.
