I have never used that gun but I use a Devilbiss Tekna with DeKups.
I love the DeKups system you can paint at any angle and easy cleanup.

I do like the Tekna Gun, I only use it for base Top and Clears. I have a primer gun I use just for primers.

Good luck
Tim

Thanks for responding Tim. I guess not many painters on here. This is what the set looks like. I looked at the Tekna but it is a little more than I can afford. I did find a Sata 4000 on Craigslist for $200.00 but I worry about it being used. I guess I`ll go with the kit from Summit.

I have one of there sets, I'm not a painter by trade but I've painted half a dozen cars or so and have had very good results. I will say this, the old school guy that spent time teaching me about painting said he could teach anyone to paint, but the prep work was where the difference is made, he used a old Sata and never liked any new gun. I've yet to take the plunge into painting anything for my vette so if you do, post up some pictures, very interested in your results

I got a Sharpe Platinum refurb years ago and used it a fair amount. It was a good gun for a beginner (i.e. me). I think the series you're looking at is supposed to be a decent inexpensive gun. I'd second the suggestion on the Dekups system. I just painted my '68 a couple weeks ago (with a Sagola gun, though) and the Dekups was the only way to go. It allows you to paint in any position without dripping or sucking air. It also simplifies clean-up. I did a write-up in the paint and body section on my booth, if you're going to build a temporary one.
Also, I'd highly recommend the forum at autobodystore.com if you haven't been on there. It's an active board with several really helpful guys who know their stuff. Just digging through old posts is really instructive.

It's in the top level of the forums (outside the generations). You'll need an adapter for your gun to use the system, but adapters are available for most common guns. Keep us posted on the progress. It can be done!

Thanks E Murray

Those guns are fine with BC/CC solid colors. They don't spray metallic's very well. You'll have to work at it to get the metallics to lay down even.

I sprayed with a used Sata for years and never had an issue. A druggie needed fast cash. Sata is a perfect gun for metallics.
