I'm building a 69 Coupe restomod and starting the process of determining what rims I'm going to run. The car is currently at the paint shop. So while I'm waiting for the car to return to my garage I have the following question on front rim back spacing.....what is the maximum b/s you can run without hitting the the frame while turning the wheels to maximum turning direction? I realize it depends on the tire size width of the tire. So is it possible to run 4.5" b/s rims on front while having approximately a 1/2" of inside tire overlap which results in 5" of total b/s including tire? Thanks in advance for your response to my question!
You can run more backspacing if you step up to an 18" wheel.
With 17" or less, you're limited to about 4.25-4.5" backspace.
When you go to 18", the rim will clear the steering arm and tie rod. I just put on new 18x9.5" wheels with 5.25" BS and don't have any interference.
