Yes, you can use the earlier roof panel on your 71.

Very early 68 panel latches didn't have rubber bumpers on the adjustable pins. You may want to change to those…. less 'creaking' when driving over railroad tracks.
You can see the small black rubber pad on top of the hex part of the threaded pin.
