Default 70 LT-1 Muncie Question

Hi, I'm new. Glad for this forum. And hope I'm in the right forum area to ask...
Just acquired a stock '70 LT-1 993 Bronze coupe. It's a June 15, 1970 build. Dealer code was out of Birmingham Alabama. It's a nice high-line driver. Thrilling to drive! I'm rolling all the numbers - and everything looks "close to" correct - except carb, alt & replacement LOF windshield. I'm working on getting the couple of correct assemblies - all in time. I question the trans. In reading, I see threads stating that ALL LT-1s came with M21. I think I have the M20 wide-ratio. The case markings show: POE05A. Not sure if the date code jives - and if am I correct that I have the M-20 - and does this mean this is not the original Muncie 4-spd?
(By the way, if it is the M20 - I do like it!)
Thanks in advance for sharing the love and expertise.

Hi Bill,
Welcome!
New, old 70 LT-!, for you! VERY nice!!

I believe that during 70 production all three 4-speed transmissions were available with the LT-! optional engine. I believe the wide range M20 was the standard transmission.

In the same area of the transmission case where you found the Assembly Stamp there was also the partial VIN stamp containing the information for what car the transmission was first installed in.
This stamp, (or lack of it), will pretty certainly indicate if this transmission is original to this car.

The vin stamp you're looking for was done at the same time and with the same stamp that was used to stamp the VIN derivative on the engines's pad.
Regards,
Alan

Here's an example (be it a slightly unusual one) showing the 2 stamps.

if the car was ordered with a 3-36 econo rear gear than it would have a m-20
all perf gear cars had m-21, most LT-1s have 3-55 to 4-11s, most common is a 3-70
the date seems to read may 5th 1970

Thank you Alan,
I'll be crawling back under the car again and snooping for the VIn (if there).
Very much appreciate your guidance and the sample show and tell pic you sent.

All the best!
