I just joined NCRS and next month will attend my first meeting of the local chapter here in Las Vegas. My '72 is by no mean Top Flight (block was decked so no engine stamp, not original color, etc) but I thought for fun I would have it judged.
Anyone here had their less than perfect car judged?
Hi r,
Yes!
People have less than perfect cars Flight Judged all the time!
(There really are NO perfect cars!)
Folks that are hesitant about having their car Flight Judged are OFTEN surprised at how well the car does.
A Chapter level judging meet is a terrific way to get started… both for you and your car.
I think you'll find the atmosphere quite low-key and the judges for your car considerate and helpful.
Judges always enjoy having the opportunity to judge a car they haven't seen before.
Try to run through the Operations Section of Flight Judging so you can get as many of those points as possible.
Also be sure to have a NCRS decal somewhere on the car and also have a small fire-extinguisher on hand.
Those 2 things earn a few extra points that you shouldn't give up needlessly.
If the block is original, correct casting number, reasonable casting date, the lack of a clear stamp will make little difference for flight judging. As Alan suggests, you may be surprised how well you may do.
I have judged not so well original cars before. just this year I OJ a 67 convertible with a crate 350, 5 speed, painted a non GM color, aftermarket AC and a whole bunch of other stuff that was not available in 67. the owner didn't care and was just there to learn about his car. I have seen very tired worn out cars go through judging as well. go learn and have fun
I submitted mine for judging when we were 'short' a car for the event. It was fun. I learned a ton. Ended up with a punch list of things to consider. And I got to know some of the members quite well as a result. Do it.

I've already got the fire extinguisher and my NCRS sticker arrived in the mail yesterday! Bring on the judges!
You will have a great time and learn a lot about your car. Remember, these cars weren't perfect when they left the factory! Post some more photos of your '72 we would like to see it. Also add the battery disconnect switch to Alan's list of bonus pts. items. All the Vette vendors have them. You'll get some extra pts. for driving the car to the meet too

I judged Allans car. While it’s well restored and almost perfect there were a few things deemed not typical. It’s been a few years though and he probably fixed them by now

I'll post photos this weekend so you can do some pre-judging judging!

Part of the reason that there are no perfect scores is that there are many service parts that are close to original but still aren't exactly like them. also the finish on some parts are correct . A few cars have come close but don't think any have not had a few points deducted.

I'm sure someone has the stats on how many cars per day were built but it's whole lot about the amount of time the factory workers had vs. the restorer.....(Workmans 12 hours vs. Alan's 17?+ yrs. as an example).
This thread actually makes me want to join NCRS and get my 68 judged. I've seen a few cars posted that have done quite well getting flight judged, and i believe my car is more original than theirs.

TJ,
We'd love to have you bring your 68 to our Pittsburgh Tri State Chapter Judging Meet in Latrobe next year in June
Think about it
