Im looking at purchasing a 1974 Corvette Stingray. Everything is completely original, except the paint. It is the old chevrolet crap silver they had back in 74-75. its a one owner. Its a standard 350, air, PS,windows, auto trans. Asking price is 13,000. Mechanic went through it, and said its as close to perfect as one can get.
What do you all think.

A prefect '74? That's hard to believe.
Well, I wouldn't believe it unless one had the maintenance history. Does it need new suspension bushing? How old are the wheel bearings? I guess it comes down to how picky you are. I had a mechanic at the local Chevy dealer look at my '81 after I purchased it, he thought it looked great! The mechanic worked on the 'vettes in the '80s. I'm still fixing things... Never forget it's an old car!
I think you should determine what the car is worth to you, and then pay less than that for the car. Be sure it is rust free. Did you mechanic do that, and does he have enough specific Corvette experience to do it correctly? Anything else can be fixed.
What we think may not matter much. We haven't seen the car. You have. The question is whether you want this 74. You're the only one who can answer that.
A couple things from my experience (aka mistakes):
Paint is expensive.
Rust is a killer.
Is this the car you really want?
Is this the best car you can afford?
Good luck and have fun.

Crap silver? Rubber bumper cars look fantastic in silver!
