I started to put my dash together today. I have the drivers side on and I am putting the the gauge panel in. I have added auto meter gauges and and an aftermarket radio. All the wiring is soldered with heat shrink and taped up to look like the original harness. I hooked up the new gauges to the original wires I just put a spade connector and slid it into the original and then taped it off. None of the original harness has been cut up. No bubba wiring here. I checked everything before I put it together, and it all worked.
Well today I am putting the gauge panel in and that went smooth. Then I added the wiper plate(72) and when I slid it into it's spot I got a nice spark. And a shock, like a dead short. It did this a few times. I disconnected the battery and walked away.
I just went back there and tried it again and now it seems fine and everything works. I guess I have to pull it apart and see if anything is shorting out.
Any ideas.
I have had that happen to me IF the ignition was ON and the wiper switch was also ON...because I was holding onto that plate while installing it... it was finding a ground. I got shocked like crazy.
I doubt you have a problem but look into it if you like.

Thats what had to happen. I had the radio on, just installed it and it probably went down like you said. Nice shock, woke me up.
