I have a 74 corvette, not only did my headlight actuators go out on me but I feel that the headlights take away from the sleekness of the car, and that it will especially after I go to paint it later this year matte black. My plan is to leave them as it but somehow manage make them bright enough to be usable.
1. Any suggestions for bulbs that don't need a conversion/ cheap easy conversions?
2. Is there a conversion kit to make the lights shine through the front grill?
The picture I included of the front end with the lights on show what they look like now, I'm not sure how but my idea as of now is the find away to lower the lights so they are level with the grill
Also believe me that pos on the hood is going to go
Amen! I'm a Corvette rookie......The way the headlight assemblies bolt to the underside of the "nose", I would think you could add spacers between the underside of the nose and the bracket assemblies the headlights are attached to. Then the lights themselves would be low enough and level enough to be aimed correctly. The round headlights could be replaced with much brighter bulbs. (You would have to disconnect the mechanism that raises the lights to prevent the modification from damaging itself or the openings.
There has been a couple threads on this topic, and I recall reading in one of them, a concern about the DMV rules regulating the height of the headlights. You should check with them in your State,
to be sure they won`t give you problems if you mount them too low.
Otherwise.... I LOVE the picture posted above!

True about regulations.....maybe they will let you slide if the grills are in place.

Yep......you could adjust the angle of the grills with shims to get the headlights to shine directly through the slots in the grills..

That should work.....only people who own C3 cars would know the headlihts were modified.

I agree. Because we`ve allowed it to get so big. There`re too many departments involved.
But you can`t just do as you please. If they say your headlights must be so many inches off the ground, then you build what you want anyway. Now you`re out for a cruise, and you got some cop pulling you over, and writing you a ticket because your headlights are too low.
What are you going to do? The cop is just doing his job, enforcing the rules. The pencil-neck that WROTE the rule was just doing his job, writing regulations. WHO are you going to argue with? Who are you going to fight? What can you do? I agree, it sucks BIG TIME.
I only suggest he check the rules in his area BEFORE he builds something he can`t legally run on the roads there.
I live in Idaho and its laughable how little cops care, I also have a lifted F-250 and I only use the parking lights with fog lights to avoid blinding cars in front of me and no cops care, plus in Idaho you dont have to do vehicle inspections so I should be fine
This looks incredible. Who did/what is this set-up?
If i recall correctly that is "rolling thunder" a former ( RIP ) members car that was sold and i believe went overseas,
I believe his bulbs are modern hid or led.
People did headlights in grill themselves but ecklers back in the era offer a kit,
They no longer sell the kit, stopped well over 20 years back likely s big reason is in the USA this kit places the headlights too low and is 50 state illegal,
Some builders still do it anyway, i guess with no concerns to getting pulled over or worse the liability in the even or an accident, in the USA pretty much any change to factory headlight could bite the builder for liability issues,
Stock headlights lost to a Florida deer, about the size of a shepard here.....both assemblies...went with Ecklers sugar scoops and the tall square lights....stock height, and being aware of the height issues....so a few years later a Verizon truck backed into the bumper, left side, rebuilt it with reducing the opening by 50% front to back, and went lo profile rectangle bulbs keep glass and not plastic for lights.....
