Sorry to hear that David, but I can actually say I know how you feel. Three weeks ago I had a similar accident. Did a combo smash and peel. Took the skin off of my index finger from the first knuckle almost to the end while smashing it against a steel fuel tank. Took 10 stitches to put it back together. Yours sounds a little worse than mine, I still have the nail, and I didn't see any bone. OUCH! I'm just starting to use it again, but it's very tender. It will take some time but you will be back before you know it. Hang in there and I hope you heal up fast.
Ouch, I am terribly sorry to hear this but please do not give up hope. The entire tip of the index finger on my right hand is reconstructed after a similar incident. While I do not have sensation there, I do have a nail and it looks normal.
Best of luck with your speedy and complete recovery!
Thanks for all the comments. It could have been much worse, true, and I am thankful that I am only dealing with the split tip and trying to save the tip of my finger. Nurse cleaned it up again yesterday, sealed the flap with steri-stips, wrapped me up and told me to leave it alone for the two weeks only cleaning the outer bandage. And wear a metal support to protect hitting it if I am active. My wife laughed and said "he is always active unless he is sleeping".
Anyway, doing better and teaching myself to typed using my middle finger for now. Slower, but gets the job done.
Hope to get some stuff done today, sure has cramped my active car lifestyle.
David,
So sorry to hear about your mishap.
I crushed my thumb in a rear wheel sprocket restoring a vintage Norton motorcycle a few years ago.
Boy does that hurt like no other.
Last night I was able to bend my finger a little, so there is hope. Bandages are off and "flap" appears to be sealing itself back up so again there is hope. Very tender area and I wear a guard when working to avoid hitting it because that hurts, don't ask me how I know.
I was actually worried about it impacting my Ron Fellows driving school the first of December but barring any further damage or injuries I should be good to go. Whew.
Sorry to hear about your finger. Let me see how my weeks works out, maybe I can drop the body cart off.
Bob K.
Thank you Bob, I appreciate it. I am fresh out of trailers at the moment with my 72 racer loaded in mine at the present time. Tuesday I swap my 72 with Gordon's 72 and I will store his here while he works on mine. I won't have a trailer open until after I get back from Las Vegas Dec 5 unfortunately. Be glad to buy you lunch and give you some $$ if you bring it up here. Only if you have time, I know how retirement eats up the free time.
