Even if you get a title, you will never get insurance for it. That vin # is in a national database for cars with CD titles that is maintained by the insurance companies.

I am curious. What does the Cert of Destruction say as the reason it is beyond repair? My salvage cert for my 75 coat vertical see it needs a hood. All it says. No mention of front bumper cover, and hood Wes damaged by body shop chopping it up to get hood opened. Wasn't damaged in the light nose hit accident.

And florida wont even title it they are hard on all the shakey shady stuff,
If there was a legit way to get a good title on this car it would have one, not sit a decade and be sold as a parts car....
Its not worse any possibly future hauntings.....

We went through this with the 1931 Chevy. It came with a signed Illinois title from 1957. After 3 attempts to get it titled in Florida, we gave up. Stripped the car down to the bones, sold it off in parts. On the bright side, we tripled our money on it, then bought the 71 Vette.... with a good title.

The vehicle sits as is until I have clear title in my hand.
no $ investment, incase the title comes back goofy /stolen.
restoration after clear title only, never before.
you will never sell this vehicle, and recoupe your investment.
walk away from no title.

Wouldn't that depend on who's behind the doors with you?

Okay,

Heres what i heard,

The car was a Louisiana hurricane flood car from like 10 years ago,

So i guess thats why it got a destruction title, sold on ebay mid 20s, sellers promise of title never happed,

Car was sitting i believe outside ever since,
I would imagine that brackish water bath gave it a nice case of the rusties...

Very sad.

Is Florida still Kit Car friendly? Used to be that they would even title/register open cockpit VW sand rails for the street.

Fl has never been friendly to title vin weirdness and never light on shakey shady stuff,
However,
Getting kit cars, sand rails etc titled just depends
If you are talking home built, you need a stack of receipts where parts came from, not all from one junkyard,
Buying it built, no title wont float,
Then the rail/ kit has to have things like seat belts, headlights, brake lights, horn, wipers, it has to be inspected,
If the state sees fit tg5e give it a vin, my vw trike has one, its a cycle so requires less than a 4 wheeler, but state vin decal
If the kit or rail has a vin and title from another state fl inspects that vin and runs it, they look even at what the title says,
For example fl will not title a kit car as even a replica unless its ***** on,
They frown big time titles that for example call a laser 917 kit car a porsche,
Ask me how i know that as fact...lol

I've ALWAYS wanted one of the Laser Kit Cars but Massachusetts won't title/register it. It's no longer a VW and it wont pass muster as a built car. Too bad, they're just the coolest thing out there. SO aggressive and so adaptable as well. Just the perfect combination all wrapped up in an erzatz rough copy of the ultimate Porsche !

When I retire, I'd totally consider moving to a state that would allow titling/registration of a Laser for road use, but that option is getting smaller. Texas used to be a free-for-all but now clamped down on buggies and kit cars and has even gone so far as to revoke already in play registrations along with denying any new ones.

YIKES ! ! !

Do you think that Florida might consider a Porsche 914 with a Laser body fitted over the unibody as just a re-bodied Porsche 914? A lot of states now have the equivalent of a "silhouette law" in that the modified car has to look enough like the original to pass a visual inspection. Just thinking ahead to retirement and that "Laser thing" you know?

Not to tjump my chest but,
I have been into earky kits as much as vettes,
I owned the laser forum, two lasers one on a custom full frame, countless other kits,
I also was the contributor to shannon who owned priceofhistoys sadly shannon passed away and a chain of sad events ruined price so its gone,

Florida has a kit car title branding they like best,
Some cars like ac cobra replicas get a ford replica title
Fl according to what the lady in charge told me doesnt want any confusion between real and copies....

I havent been doing much kit stuff since 09 i sold all my kit stuff bought the 69 vette
I like kits but love vettes,
I still get one or two emails a week about kit cars,

This one is full frame, i called it the red stinkbug
